VSTF Meeting 11/09/2011
The Virginia Sustainability Task Force will be meeting on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 5pm in the conference room #118 of the Northland Building located at 307 First Street South. We will be making plans for the coming year. Everyone is welcome!
No VSTF Meeting 08/10/2011
There will be no Virginia Sustainability Task Force Meeting on August 10, 2011. Meetings will resume on September 14, 2011. We look forward to seeing you there!
VSTF Meeting 06.08.2011
The Virginia Sustainability Task Force will be meeting on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 5pm in the conference room #118 of the Northland Building. We will be discussing the upcoming Land of the Loon Festival and other events and activities. Everyone is welcome!
VSTF Meeting 1.19.11
Please note the meeting date change from January 12th to the 19th. The Virginia Sustainability Task Force will be meeting on the 3rd Wednesday in January, and will go back to the 2nd Wednesday of the month in February. Our guest speaker will be Bill Mittelfehldt of CERTs (Clean Energy Resource Teams). He will be speaking on the MN Green Step Cities Program, and will assist us in the next step of the process. Please join us to learn more about the Duluth SEEDS of SUCCESS Program. A model for locally sustainable urban agriculture employing youth from low-income households. Brainstorm with us about possibilities of creating a similar program or other local sustainable food initiatives in the quad-cities. Stay for the monthly Virginia Sustainability Task Force meeting after the presentation.

VSTF to meet 10/13/10
A Matter of Degrees – Is Anyone Listening?
Mesabi Range Community & Technical College will be hosting a FREE global warming presentation on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 starting at 7:00 P.M. and held in Room F-100 (Theatre) on the Virginia Campus.
Mesabi graduate and best-selling author George Erickson will present a PowerPoint program titled: A Matter of Degrees: Global Warming is Real!, which is based on his 38 journeys in the far north and on the science that has been warning us to “get serious” for more than 50 years.
He is a former president of the Minnesota Humanists, a past director of the American Humanist Association, a recent Vice-President of the Minnesota Seaplane Pilots’ Assoc. and a former chairman of the Worthington, MN Airport Commission and the Nobles County, MN Art Center. He has served on the New Brighton, MN Environmental Quality Commission. Since 1967 he has made 38 flights through Alaska, the Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, northern Quebec and Australia.
Dr. Erickson has published many articles on a variety of subjects and written four books: the best seller, True North: Exploring the Great Wilderness by Bush Plane, its sequel, Back to the Barrens: on the Wing with da Vinci & Friends, Time Traveling with Science and the Saints and Eyes Wide Open: Living, Laughing, Loving and Learning in a Religion-troubled World, which was published in May, 2010.

Meeting Notice
Come to the Virginia Green House at Olcott Park on June 9th at 5:00 pm. Hear about what’s the latest news regarding the Green House. You’ll also have a chance to meet Teresa Sieckert, the new VSTF Chair along with City Councilor Nevada Littlewolf.
New Leadership
The VSTF welcomes Teresa Sieckert as our new Chair. Teresa chaired the energy committee in preparation for the 2010 Iron Range Earth Fest. She edited the inaugural “Everyday Guide To Sustainability on the Iron Range” which dealt with local food producers. Teresa has been involved in sustainability for many years. Her activities include being a partner in a renewable energy business and as a coordinator of the Iowa Renewable Energy Association (I-RENEW).
May 26th Meeting Venue change
There is a meeting at City Hall Council Chambers for the Blandin Community Leadership Program. It starts at 4:30 and will be an informational meeting about the new Virginia cohort and more recruitment. Since almost all Active VTSF members want to be at this meeting we are changing the venue, and time, to City Council Chambers and our meeting will follow the Blandin meeting
